Deux Belettes is more than a beautiful wedding venue. It is the story of a family, a lifelong passion for craftsmanship, and a commitment to creating something truly extraordinary in the Byron Bay hinterland.
Long before sustainability became a global movement, the family behind Deux Belettes set out to build a place that worked in harmony with nature. In 1980, they left Sydney and settled on a 30-acre property nestled among the rolling green hills between Byron Bay and Ballina, with a vision of creating a home inspired by the timeless rural farmhouses of France.
Every stone, timber and architectural detail tells part of that story.
Basalt rocks cleared from the paddocks were carefully repurposed to build the property’s stone buildings and bridge. Old bridge timbers, railway sleepers, reclaimed building materials and handcrafted roof shingles were collected over many years. Antique door hardware and decorative pieces were sourced from garage sales and French brocantes, creating the authentic character that now defines Deux Belettes.
Unlike modern construction, this was a labour of patience. The property evolved slowly over decades, waiting for the right reclaimed materials to become available rather than taking shortcuts. The result is a rare and authentic French-inspired estate unlike anywhere else in Australia.
The landscape surrounding Deux Belettes has been shaped with the same care as its buildings.
Over the years, more than a thousand fruit trees, native rainforest species, eucalypts and pines have been planted across the property. Rows of majestic plane trees now line the long entrance driveway, creating the distinctive European atmosphere that guests experience from the moment they arrive.
Today the grounds provide a peaceful sanctuary filled with birdsong, butterflies and established gardens, offering an unforgettable setting for weddings, romantic getaways, private events and photography.
One of the most meaningful traditions at Deux Belettes began over a decade ago.
Each year, twelve rainforest trees are planted to honour the couples who celebrate their wedding here. Every tree is named and dated, creating a living reminder of the love stories that have become part of the property’s history.
As these trees continue to grow, so too do the memories they represent. Walking through this small rainforest is a reminder that every celebration leaves something lasting behind—not only for the couple, but for future generations and for the environment.
Our hope is that, like these trees, every marriage that begins at Deux Belettes will continue to flourish, putting down deep roots and growing stronger with each passing year.
Today, Deux Belettes welcomes guests from across Australia and around the world who are searching for something truly unique.
